TN.com Cares: Help support the Sharing Hope Walk and the American Brain Tumor Association
I wrote this for the TicketNetwork TN Team Blog, and it was posted this morning. My family and I participate in this charity event each year in support of Steve (who’s story you can read below) and many others who are determined to raise money and find a cure for brain tumors. Each June at the University of Connecticut in Storrs, CT, I go with my friend Greg up to UConn to volunteer our time to help make sure that the event runs smoothly. Greg brings Royal Wiches, which are always a HUGE hit from his family’s premium ice cream deserts ice cream company, Royal Ice Cream Co., located in Manchester, CT. Doing the walk is a “triple positive”, because it’s fun, it makes you feel good to help those in need, and every year it puts my own life into perspective. It’s an all around good time, and supports a terrific cause! Take a moment to read this post, check out the TN Team Blog, and register or make a donation for the Sharing Hope Cause! Make sure you let me know if you register or make a donation!
TicketNetwork.com has always looked for ways to give back to the community, so we are proud to announce the “TN.com Cares” initiative, which will highlight great charities, both local and national. We kick it off today with a local charity walk that benefits the American Brain Tumor Association, a non-profit organization dedicated exclusively to brain tumor research and patient care.
A letter from the charity:
Life changes every day, but who could imagine the life change that we encountered on February 1, 2006. That was the day that Steve underwent neurosurgery and was diagnosed with glioblastoma….just a word at that point, but what we soon learned was horrifying:
- malignant brain tumor
- treatable but not curable
- statistics that we don’t even want to hear about
“Accept the diagnosis; Defy the prognosis.” That is the mantra that our family immediately adopted!
Steve’s strength, determination and courage have been an inspiration to everyone! He has pulled that strength from the love and support that he continues to get from friends, family and colleagues. That love and support has brought us to tears.
Steve refuses to let you all down in the fight of his life. We can’t thank you enough for the love and caring that you have shared with us.
~ Jodi Kaplan, Walk Organizer and Steve’s Wife
